This handle design is actually one of the major upgrades DAM made when they replaced the short lived 1000-5000 series with this 1001-5001 series This is a reel from the 1000-5000 series, and as you can see the handle had the old style screw nut to keep it up, and that dated system was problematic because the nut would become loose during fishing and need re-tightening to keep the handle stable
